The Ionian University Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology is the only one of this kind in Greece. It was established in the academic year 1993-1994 and its aim is to provide students with comprehensive education on book and information theory, on the theories of archive documents and objects worth preserving, as well as on issues relating to the creation, organisation, management and development of book, archives or other material and information collections.
Moreover, the Department aims at promoting research in said fields, through a global approach and study of books, documents and museum objects both as information carriers and as broader cultural and social meaning agents
